The Blue Cross of India......

Hello everyone! Welcome to this blog post about my recent visit to the Blue Cross of India! I am SO excited to share my experience with you here, so let's jump in!! Firstly, this is a non-profit government organization that originated as the AAA (Animal Aid Association). You can be sure that any money you donate will be used only for the safekeeping and welfare of the animals. Second, this organization mainly focuses on helping sick or injured animals on the streets of Madras (also known as Chennai), its only location in India. With this background information in mind, let's begin our tour! It was a lazy weekday morning in Madras. Not much traffic, and overcast skies. I found myself in the Blue Cross parking lot, holding a big iron cage that I had to donate, which, by the way, used to be my aunt's dog's cage. We walked through the short driveway towards the entrance, and immediately found many dogs sitting literally EVERYWHERE! They were all soooo cute, especially a small, black and white colored poodle pug mix I saw. I immediately reached down to touch it, slowly holding out my hand first to check if it was friendly. It was, and I spent the next, like, 5 minutes petting and playing with it while my family checked in. What really saddened me, though, was that many dogs had limbs missing, or bite marks on their bodies, or worse. I was comforted when I realized that they were going to or had received the proper and necessary treatment!! Anyway, after dropping the cage in the front office, we headed out the back door with our guide. As soon as we stepped through that door, a dog jumped up. And this wasnt just any dog! Karthi, the golden retriever-lab mix, was just a sweetheart! He was so friendly the whole tour, and was smiling the whole time!! He was following us and licking us affectionately! With him as my sidekick, I continued to pet some more dogs around the facility. After a couple of minutes, we walked past the....cow shed! That's right, you guys, Blue Cross helps all kinds of animals, not just dogs! We weren't allowed to touch the cows, much to my disappointment, but I took some pretty silly pictures of them! We continued on the raised shelter, which, I must say, is quite exciting! As soon as you put your foot on the stairs, a horde of enthusiastic but still cute dogs comes running at you! You might be surprised, or even scared at first, but don't worry, they're friendly and just want to sniff you! After we climbed the set of stairs (careful not to step on any tails!), we reached the aviary and puppy area! In the room, there were bowls of curry and rice on the floor, which the dogs were eating joyfully. To the left and right of the room were cages full of fluffy, cute furballs of puppies! As I slowly held my hand out to the puppies in the cages, they sweetly licked my hand and stood on two legs against the walls of the cage, tails gleefully wagging. I also saw a sweet old pug, which was whimpering in a corner of a cage, and I went and petted it to make it feel better, as it looked like it was badly hurt. After struggling to say goodbye to all the cuties in that room, I continued on to the next room, which was home to lots of birds and bunnies, too! We also couldn't touch any of these animals, but they were fun to watch! This dark floored room had chickens, budgies, parrots, bunnies, vultures, and other Indian bird species. On our way back to the main building, we peeked at the horses, who were obviously AMAZING, and we didn't go into the cat exhibit, but we saw a few loitering around, and they were REALLY, REALLY cute too!!!!! Overall, I do recommend visiting Blue Cross for the adoption and fostering of dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, cows, horses, and much more! Please think of supporting a small business that helps animals the next time you are in Chennai, by volunteering (volunteers must be at least 10 years old, and come on Saturdays and Sundays!), and donating to this important cause! Thank you all for visiting my blog, and reading this article, and I will see you next time! Byeeeeeee!
